Hello! My name is Jennifer Hyjack. This is my 3rd year teaching 3rd grade and 4th year at our school.
I have been educating young people for 17 years. I received my B.A. in Communication from Rutgers University and my M.F.A. in acting from the Actors Studio Drama School. I was an arts education instructor in NYC and NJ.
The birth of my son and my passion for teaching led me to earn my Elementary certification from Montclair State University. I believe that all students should have a safe, joyful, and inclusive learning environment. I am looking forward to an amazing year!
The first marking period is off to a great start! 3rd graders continue to fine-tune their reading comprehension and grammar skills. Our class wanted to play Bingo like their parents do, so we played Homonym Bingo. They had so much fun practicing their homonyms! In Math, we are finishing place value and rounding. In Social Studies our class is studying about different types of communities in our country. In Science, we're learning about plants and how they grow. Our first STREAM Lab project with 4th grade was to build the longest paper chain out of 5 pieces of paper. Our engineers had some very creative ideas!
The best way to maintain your child’s current reading abilities over the summer is to encourage reading. They should read a minimum of 20 minutes each day. They can read books of any kind as long as they find it interesting. All students entering 3rd grade are required to read the following three books:
The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies
The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling
Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White
Students should complete one of the following activities for each book: Punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and neatness count. All writing components can be typed on your computer and printed out. If you handwrite any of the components, please use standard loose leaf paper.
Enjoy your summer. I can’t wait to see you in September!

All homework is posted daily on our class Google Classroom for students and on ClassDojo for parents.
Act of Contrition
My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend with your help, to do penance, to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy.
Amen
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
They kingdom come.
They will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death.
Amen
Grace Before Meals
Bless us, O Lord, and these they gifts, which we are about to receive
from your bounty.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Guardian Angel Prayer
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.
The Exit of The Day Prayer:
We are grateful for the
signs and wonders of this day,
for ordinary events and its surprise,
big and small.
We thank you for the
loving people who surround us.
May we continue to reflect your goodness
to others in your name.
We ask this through your beloved Son, Jesus.
Amen.
Students will be using a new reading program called My View Literacy for Language Arts this year. They will also continue using FUNdations and Voyages for phonics and grammar. For math, we will be using Sadlier Progress Mathematics. We will also be using IXL for math and reading and other digital tools to help meet our curriculum goals.
