Hi and welcome to the first grade! My name is Miss Asciolla and this is my third year teaching first grade at Saint Joseph School.
In my class we start each day working with our phonics program called Fundations. From their we work on reading and writing with our reading program, MyView by Savvas. After Language arts, we then move into Sadlier Math for daily mathematics. There is also a big focus on STREAM and Project Based Learning in my class.
I am so excited for this school year. Feel free to reach out to me at anytime through my email, tasciolla@sjps.net or on ClassDojo.
There will be pictures and posts on this page to show all of the fun and exciting work we complete.
Also on this page are links to our Google Classroom, Powerschool, Raz-Kids, IXL, and ClassDojo.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
They kingdom come.
They will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death.
Amen
Morning Offering
O Jesus,
through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings
of this day for all the intentions
of Your Sacred Heart,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
throughout the world,
in reparation for my sins,
for the intentions of all my relatives and friends.
Amen.
Guardian Angel Prayer
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.
The Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is dispair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;
Lord, Grant that I may seek
To comfort rather than be comforted;
To understand rather than to be understood;
To love than to be loved.
For it is by giving that one receives;
By forgiving that one is forgiven;
And by dying that one awakens to eternal life.
Amen.
Grace Before Meals
Bless us, O Lord, and these they gifts,
which we are about to receive
from thy bounty,
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Act of Contrition
My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against You Whom I should love above all things,
I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ, suffered and died for us.
In His name, my God, have mercy.
Amen.
Exit of The Day Prayer:
We are grateful for the
signs and wonders of this day,
for ordinary events and it's surprises,
big and small.
We thank you for the
loving people who surround us.
May we continue to reflect your goodness
to others in your name.
We ask this through your beloved Son, Jesus.
Amen.
The first grade class read the story I Promise, by Lebron James. Students discussed how to be a team player in and outside of school. They were able to create their very own promises for this school year. After our reading and writing activities, the first grade students took part in an engineering activity. The students used popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and a spoon to create a catapult. Two cups and a piece of card stock was used to create a basket. The students goal was to catapult a pom pom into their basket from different distances.
Students took part in a research project where they learned all about the 1920's and the 1930's. Major parts of history, such as the presidents, economy, fashion, and different inventions were discussed. After researching, exploring, and working hard, the first-grade and 2nd-grade students collaborated together to create, design, and display their projects. Both classes presented their research projects to the entire school.
