Hi and welcome to the first grade! My name is Mr. Williamson and after leaving teaching at public school for many years, I have been teaching here at Saint Joseph School for six year. I am working along side Ms. Mantovani to teach both first and second grade this year. Ms. Mantovani has taught for 15 years and we are both honored and excited to be sharing our experience with the students of SJS.
In our class, we start each day working with a variety of educational programs. We use Sadlier Math for our daily mathematics. We move on to Voyages for our grammar and Writing. After we move onto our reading program, My View by Savvas. We also have a big focus on STREAM and Project Based Learning in our class.
We are so excited for this school year. Feel free to reach out to either myself or Ms. Mantovani at any time through our email, jwilliamson@sjps.net, Ms Mantovani's email, gmantovani@sjps.net or either of us on ClassDojo.
There will be pictures and posts on this page to show all of the fun and exciting work we complete.
Also on this page are links to our Google Classroom, PowerSchool, Raz-Kids, IXL, and ClassDojo.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
They kingdom come.
They will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death.
Amen
Morning Offering
O Jesus,
through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings
of this day for all the intentions
of Your Sacred Heart,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
throughout the world,
in reparation for my sins,
for the intentions of all my relatives and friends.
Amen.
Guardian Angel Prayer
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.
The Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is dispair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;
Lord, Grant that I may seek
To comfort rather than be comforted;
To understand rather than to be understood;
To love than to be loved.
For it is by giving that one receives;
By forgiving that one is forgiven;
And by dying that one awakens to eternal life.
Amen.
Grace Before Meals
Bless us, O Lord, and these they gifts,
which we are about to receive
from thy bounty,
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Act of Contrition
My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,
I have sinned against You Whom I should love above all things,
I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ, suffered and died for us.
In His name, my God, have mercy.
Amen.
Exit of The Day Prayer:
We are grateful for the
signs and wonders of this day,
for ordinary events and it's surprises,
big and small.
We thank you for the
loving people who surround us.
May we continue to reflect your goodness
to others in your name.
We ask this through your beloved Son, Jesus.
Amen.
The first grade class along with the second grade class worked on a STREAM lesson entitled Bottles to Buildings. Students had watched a video on how to build a house. The students were then instructed to make a small sketch of the type of house they would like to build. Then they wrote about their house, description and what it would look like. THe class then were handed a blue sheet of paper and created their own blueprint of the house. Once all these steps were completed they were challenged to take bottles and use them to try their best to create the house. They had to use thinking strategies on how to get the bottles to stay standing as they created their buildings from the ground up.
